10. June 1993 - Simo Alexander Hoge

This is the day my youngest brother Simo died. He was 13.

When Simo was 9 years old his teachers found out that his handwriting had changed and that he made pauses in his sentences and couldn't remember what he had said. After some tests the doctors found out that he had a brain infection called "SSPE - Subakute sklerosierende Panenzephalitis" which had been caused by a measle infection when he was a little child. The measle virus had gotten into his brain and infected it - no cure - and at that time there were 10 registered people with that desease worldwide.

After that Simo rapidly got worse and after 2 years he was like a baby, we had to feed and diaper him and he couldn't speak anymore.

Simo died on a beautiful and sunny day in June when my parents, my other brother Lasse and I were in London. I can still remember everything from when the phone rang in our hotelroom to our arrival home..

I feel blessed to have 2 brothers and I can't wait for the day that I will meet Simo again. I am sure that he is a very handsome young man. Sometimes when I pray I can feel him around and I ask Heavenly Father to give him a hug & kiss from me. I often wonder how he would be right now, how his life would have turned out. He would be 26.

Simo, I love and miss you - always. Your big sister.

Simo is the blonde little boy - unfortunately I don't have a scanned picture of him when he was older.
